LPS is most delighted to become part of the Discorporate Tape family! DT  released our full-length Billy Callous (DT001) on cassette on 4/14/12! Produced and engineered by LPS member Chris Gray (or Sir Christopher Grey in his Anglophilic mode), Billy Callous features twelve original tracks with live instrumentation and overdubbed vocals. Casey Jarman of Portland’s Willamette Week writes that BC “presents LPS as an angular post-punk/post-grunge outfit with candy-coated New Wave tendencies.” Click on the lovely photo above to visit the Discorporate Tape website. Look for Seduce Yourself in July 2012! Thanks to Christina Song and Devin Knowlin for matters metaphotographic.

About LPS

The Bard ceas’d. All consider’d and a loud resounding murmur

Continu’d round the Halls; and much they question’d the immortal

Loud voicd Bard. and many condemn’d the high tone’d Song

Saying Pity and Love are too venerable for the imputation

Of Guilt. Others said. It it is true! if the acts have been perform’d

Let the Bard himself witness. Where hadst thou this terrible Song

The Bard replied. I am Inspired! I know it is Truth! for I Sing

According to the inspiration of the Poetic Genius

Who is the eternal all-protecting Divine Humanity

To whom be Glory & Power & Dominion Evermore Amen

                                                                        - William Blake, “Milton”

Additional special thank yous to Anna MaGruder for the use of the image of the Bride (Dee Bergen) seen on this site and also appearing on the cover of the forthcoming release Seduce Yourself. More of her superb creations can be seen at: http://www.annamagruder.com/.

Additional gratitude is due to local filmmakers The Instigators for their work on the Homer film (see below) and to all the amazing bands associated with the music scene in St. John’s, Portland’s fifth quadrant, without which we would had given up long ago. Thank you.

Finally, thank you to Peter and Susan, our neighbors, for being that which we hope to become. Namaste.

(And Thomas would personally like to thank Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singha, which, though in no way associated with LPS, is the greatest rock band in the world. Peace.)

XAIPETE! The ever magnanimous (for now) Mr. Jarman of the Willamette Week wrote this about our BILLY CALLOUS cassette release show at the Kenton Club with Moodring and Curious Hands on 4/14/2012:

[TOO MUCH ROCK] …LPS plays undeniably raw rock that seems based almost entirely on whim. As such, the band recently finished not one but two new records. The first is Billy Callous, which presents LPS as an angular post-punk/post-grunge outfit with candy-coated New Wave tendencies. The second is the yet-to-be-released Seduce Yourself, which the band describes as “a highly (some would say excessively) produced glam rock record.” (The single leaked track from the disc, “Push,” sounds more like Squeeze than Queen to me, but either way, I’m happy.) There are plenty of good musical ideas at work here, and considering that LPS intends to release a grand total of five records before 2012 is out—each an entirely different beast—chances are that you’ll like something this band does.”

This a short film the Instigators made about our band when we were still called Last Prick Standing. To be fair, it’s not really about our band. It’s about Homer (yes that Homer, the Greek) and future world music. And Jukebox the rabbit is in it…

Karl Lind of In the Can Productions LLC made this video for the title track from our 2010 album Zebra. Here’s what Mr. Casey Jarman of the Willamette Week had to say about it: “I’m honestly not sure if I should like this video from Portland rockers LPS, but I really like it. It’s like a hippie-dippie Hold Steady song combined with some weird Black Crowes/John Mellencamp-type shit. What’s going on here!? I can’t figure it out. The video, directed by local filmmaker Karl Lind, just adds to my confusion. There’s a nauseating, Tim & Eric quality to the thing, but it’s also pretty technically impressive. So LPs gets a wow from me, even if it’s a wow of the head-scratching variety. The chorus will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.” Well! That’s what you get when you mix PKD with Batman and Jesus!
